A Little Paint, Big Change

If you're like me, you love a great pair of shoes.  Even my first job was in a shoe department.  If money were no object, I'd have a closet full.  That is not the case, so I like to find a good deal.  I came across these shoes on clearance at Target and had a vision.
I have always wanted a pair of mustard color shoes.  However, with it being a bold and very specific color, I would never allow myself to spend too much money to get a pair.  If I can't wear them with everything, I can't justify the purchase.  With these babies being $4, I could make them mustard.  If they didn't turn out, I'd only be out $4 and that was my kind of price!

We headed to Michaels for the paint.  I got a few.  The yellow was too bright so I needed to mix to make my mustard color.  They were around $1.50 a piece.

After I mixed the paint in a solo cup, I applied the paint with a paint brush and used a sponge brush to blot and help spread the paint around.  This method gave me the best coverage.
You can still see the details of the shoe.  And yes, those are little girls shoes size 5.  I thought they were cute and I'm not ashamed to wear them!

Don't be afraid to get messy.  Be sure to get down in all the cracks.  Just be careful not to get it on your clothes!  I did and ruined my shirt :(

See how much fun the mustard color is??  LOVE!

Let's break it down.  $4 for the shoes.  $1.50x3 for the paint.  So that's $8.50 for a cool pair of bold shoes. That's my kind of price tag!!  Perfect for the fall!
